Truly Unique Australian wildlife

This is a juvenile kookaburra.  I was scattering bits of stale bread for the ducks and geese at the Twin Lakes Park when it hopped down from the gum tree nearby and sat there waiting to be fed.

Twin Lakes , Broken Hill. NSW

This lake is part of the revegetated area below the mine in south Broken Hill. In the ‘good old days it was a cesspit of all sorts of storm, waste and rain water.  Perilya Mining Corporation have developed it into a lush green lake area with fountain, wildlife and playground for the kiddies.

The original old gates still stand and the park is dedicated to One of the original 7 explorationists; of the mines.

Although it is pretty just don’t drink the water.  As it still holds high levels of sulphides, nickel, tin, 2014-10-26_10-11-12_924lead, silver and all sorts of chemicals from the surrounding hills
